A propos de Mauritius Duty Free Paradise (MDFP)

04 Mars 2017 – Defimedia | Sudhir Sesungkur stated the following:

“Ce n’est pas le rôle du ministère de la Bonne gouvernance d’enquêter sur les commandes d’une compagnie privée. Je n’ai pas mandat pour le faire. La MDFP compte 200 fournisseurs. Est-ce au ministère d’enquêter sur chaque contrat supérieur à Rs 100 000?”

Why we may not consider these statement from Sudhir Sesungkur as acceptable.

As stated on the site of MDFP on 13/03/2017, Mauritius Duty Free Paradise (MDFP) Co. Ltd was created on 26 March 2002 to manage the operations of duty free outlets at the airport, taking over from World Duty Free (Mauritius). The Company is a subsidiary of Airports of Mauritius Limited (AML), the owner and operator of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius. Our parent company holds an 80% majority stake with the other 20% owned by the State Investment Corporation (SIC).

Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML), a public company incorporated in May 1998, started operations on the 01 April 1999, and is the owner and operator of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. The Government of Mauritius is the major shareholder of AML.

The State Investment Corporation is a major group in the business of investment. It was founded in 1984 with the main objective of providing funds for the realisation of high-growth entrepreneurial ventures and assisting businesses to industry leadership position. For its 30 years of existence, the Group has developed into a solid conglomerate with a strong and well-diversified portfolio which has witnessed a phenomenal growth. The Group has an asset worth of over RS 7.5bn presently. As the investment arm of the Government of Mauritius, the SIC has a very solid reputation and its endorsement of any project is a definite strength and key contributor to success. Throughout the years, the Corporation has proved to be a valuable partner for local and foreign entrepreneurs and institutions desirous of setting up ventures in Mauritius, Rodrigues and the Indian Ocean Region.

MDFP is therefore a 100% subsidiary of companies owned at 100% by the Government of Mauritius.  Our opinion is that Mr. Sudhir Sesungkur is not aligned with the transparency government statement.
